We've been having some pretty entertaining encounters with the Spanish guys in the streets lately, and I thought it was high time to relate some of these stories!
When we were in Cordoba last week, two girls from my program and I were waiting around in a plaza for the rest of the group to show up so we could start heading home on the bus. Suddenly, this group of five or six Spanish guys came up to us and asked if they can take a picture with us! We were surprised, but went along with it because it was pretty funny. Then they asked us to go out dancing with them that night, and when we said we were leaving Cordoba they suggested we miss our bus to hang out with them! As they kept on insisting that we stay, more of the girls from our program started to show up, and the guys proceeded to shake EVERY person's hand to say goodbye! The funniest part was that even though there were about five guys, only one really talked to us, and the others just kind of huddled in a group and giggled like schoolgirls. Very entertaining! And now some random Spanish guys have a picture with me!
Another night last week my roommate and I went out for tapas and probably at least five separate guys approached us to talk. Of course, usually the conversation went something like this:
Spaniard: "Hola guapas, que tal?" (Hi beautiful, how are you?)
Us: "Hola, estamos bien." (Hey, we're good) (Then we would keep walking).
Spaniard: "Ay! Adonde vais??" (Hey! Where are you going???)
Again, pretty funny.
This last one is my favorite though: We were walking to the tapas bar and there were two guys behind us who were OBVIOUSLY talking about us. They were trying to guess where we were from, so all we could hear was "British girls?"..."Irish girls?"... and as we just continued walking, completely ignoring them we heard "Nope, Spanish girls!" HAHA! They never even guessed Americans, and they finally concluded that we were Spanish! Well at least we are fooling someone!
Anyway, those are just a few of the MANY encounters that happen here all the time. Guys are not shy at all about just yelling to a girl in the street, and although it can be annoying at times, it's just another thing we are getting used to (and laughing about!).
